How to Shop for Women’s Clothes
Unless you’ve got the body of a super model, shopping for clothes isn’t always easy. Retake the buying thrill by coming prepared.
Take your measurements by a size chart. Stand straight, but relaxed (no sucking it in), and measure yourself at the standard points (hips, waist, bust and inseam). Find your approximate size on the chart. Dress for the occasion. White under garments, tan nylons, black flats, black pant and a white shirt should give you a good palette to try on new things.
Shop with a buddy, Hunt. If the store has a fitting room limit, you and your buddy should take turns. Examine is from every angle, and be honest about the fit. Then, create four piles : buying, not buying, too small, too big. Stash the buying pile in your cart, hand the not buying pile to the fitting room attendant, and hunt for the right sizes from the other two.
Take final inventory. The ultra-trendy shirts may look good on you, but if you’re not comfortable wearing them, they’re a waste of money.
Don’t agonize over size. It’s just a number, and wearing ill fitting clothes will make you look worse (and feel) worse than just accepting the tag.
How to Buy Women’s Clothes from Target
Target clothing is inexpensive, moderately durable and attractive. Use a shopping cart to make inital selections.
Gather simple basics to fill your waredrobe. Select items with flattering fits. Opt for Mossimo, Isaac Mizrahi and some Merona items for a slimmer, trendier fit.
Visit the junior’s section for additional basics. These items run small and slim-fitting, but are current and fashionably cut.
Watch for maternity clothes. The maternity section starts in the middle of the women’s clothing section without a clear marker.
Avoid patterns, prints and obvious details on the clothes so that you don’t draw attention to your Target pieces. Neutrals and basic pieces sneak their way into your wardrobe.
